What is excursion inlet?

Excursion Inlet is a small community located in the Haines Borough of Alaska. It is situated on the eastern shore of Excursion Inlet, at the head of the inlet, and is surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and dense forests. The community has a population of around 25-50 people and is only accessible by boat or seaplane.

The area is known for its natural beauty, wildlife, and outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hunting, kayaking, and hiking. It also has a rich history of mining and logging, with many relics and artifacts still visible throughout the area.

Some of the popular attractions in Excursion Inlet include the Icy Strait Lodge, which offers lodging, fishing charters, and whale watching tours, as well as the Excursion Inlet Cannery, which was a major salmon cannery in the early 20th century and is now a National Historic Landmark.

Excursion Inlet is also home to a small school, community center, and post office. Despite its remote location, it is a tight-knit community with a strong sense of camaraderie and self-sufficiency.
